Are Goldendoodles hypoallergenic? A real answer

Hypoallergenic is one of the most searched and most misunderstood words in the Goldendoodle world. Here's the honest version — what it means, what it doesn't, and how we think about it at Kid's Best Doodle.

Coat texture is the biggest clue to how a doodle sheds.

What hypoallergenic actually means

No dog is 100% allergen-free. Pet allergies are triggered by a protein in saliva, urine, and dander — not the fur itself. Shedding and dander are not the same thing, so a coat that sheds less does not reliably predict how an allergic person will react.

No coat or generation is an allergy guarantee. Families with allergies should speak with an allergist and, when possible, spend time around an individual or similar adult dog before committing.

Why generation matters more than the word 'doodle'

  • F1 (50% Poodle): wavy coat, usually low shedding — but not the most predictable.
  • F1B (75% Poodle): typically curlier with less shedding, though this does not predict allergy tolerance.
  • F1BB and Multigen (87%+ Poodle): the most consistent coat outcomes. This is our specialty.

How we set expectations honestly

We do not promise allergy-proof. We do tell you exactly what generation your puppy is, what to expect from the coat, and how parent coats have presented in past litters. If you have severe allergies, we walk you through it on FaceTime before you commit anything.

What to ask any breeder

  • What generation is the puppy (F1, F1B, F1BB, Multigen)?
  • How have past litters from these parents shed as adults?
  • Can I see the parents' coats?
  • Can we do a meet — in person or on FaceTime — before reserving?
